Profile: Recommendations
Which is the best ways to get a recommendation?
- Ask for one through LinkedIn?
- Ask for one outside LinkedIn?
Think 360 degrees. If you only get recommendations from your managers, what about your peers, customers, etc.?
What can you do with your recommendations?
Grow your Network
LinkedIn claims that only after you have 65+ contacts will you achieve the full benefit of their service.
Don't add contacts for the sake increasing your numbers. A phone book can do that, but none of them will know who you are, or will respond to your requests.
Strategic Growth, ie. find people in your space
- geography
- profession
- industry
JDK + "Know and Trust"
Try inviting people outside of LinkedIn to avoid potential blocking of LinkedIn service.
Link to a couple of power connectors.
Join LinkedIn Groups
Participate in Answers
Ask questions and answer questions, at least once a month. Each time you do you put your brand in front of the network.
Expand your Contacts
Periodically save your data using the export feature of LinkedIn. This also has the added benefit of collecting all of this information in one document.
